Comics this week

I've got nothing particularly astonishing to say about the books coming out this week or about the process of picking them so let's just dive right in, shall we?

Captain America 17
It's time to find out what this whole Dr. Mindbubble business is all about. Things are as bad in Cap's life right now as they've ever been and he can't seem to get a moment's respite. Bank on Dr. Mindbubble to be someone who is tailored to remind Cap of all things horrible going on recently and who is prepared to toy with a fragile psyche. Let's hope Falcon has his mind together.

Daredevil 36
The "final" DAREDEVIL of Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's run aims to shift the status quo of Daredevil as the last panel of the last issue found Matt Murdock under oath revealing himself as Daredevil to break any sort of hold the Sons of the Serpent may have had on him. What will this revelation, making the identity everyone speculated official, do for Matt's life? Well I suppose we'll find out this time out or when the new DAREDEVIL series, written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Chris Samnee, kicks off next month.

New Warriors 1
We're still in the midst of a new release season and NEW WARRIORS is another one of those somewhat risky, possibly really fun new titles Marvel has in store. NEW WARRIORS will follow the exploits of a new team run by Justice and Speedball with ties to Nova, Scarlet Spider, and more as they try to acclimate themselves to superheroing. Some of them have been at it longer than others but those ones have more of a tragic past with it, so this is a bit of a learning experience for everyone. Chris Yost, writer of SCARLET SPIDER and AVENGING SPIDER-MAN among many others, is at the helm for this one so expect an appropriately fun book with a real grasp on its characters.

Punisher 2
The first issue of Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerards' PUNISHER was certainly interesting enough to justify an interest in the second issue. Punisher has found himself out west in a gang-filled land that needs him and that has already granted him a surprisingly stable surrounding cast. I'm interested to see how this one progresses.

Superior Spider-Man Team-Up 10
We'll return to the team-up of Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Punisher as they realize they're surrounded by Spider-(hench)Man traitors actually working for Goblin. On top of that, Spider-Man himself finds him in the company of two justice-driven heroes (hero is in quotes for Punisher) with real trust issues who believe something is up with Peter Parker. Kevin Shinick has done a good job in the little bits he's done here and there for Marvel of recent and Marco Checchetto's art is always superb so there should be plenty to like about this issue.
