Comics this week

Solid 18 books out this week as we have another pretty full-packed one. Yikes. Still, some real exciting books out this week, no reason to be concerned or anxious about how many reviews there will be, right? Absolutely no reason. Let's quick hit our five pre-game picks.

Daredevil 32
IS FOGGY DEAD? FOGGY BETTER NOT BE DEAD. Daredevil keeps being a great book, real nervous about the outcome of this one but it's also not the first time Foggy's been maybe-killed in the last five or so years. Hoping for the best.

Iron Man 17
Another arc starts under the ever-crafty pen of Kieron Gillen as we've officially (for the moment, depending on what Tony's still doing with 451) ended the Secret Origin and Godkiller arcs. But wait just a moment, Tony ran off last issue claiming something about his parents, perhaps the secret origin ISN'T QUITE THROUGH?

Nova 9
Really enjoying the new feel of the book and everything has an almost added weight now that we know Nova will headline with the new New Warriors (new new) when that book eventually launches. That adds weight to his already very fun interaction(s) with Speedball and Justice and means that his heroing will be even more under a microscope now, particularly as, thanks to Infinity, he'll have to really step up in a big way very quickly.

Secret Avengers 10
I thought the last issue took a step forward and, even though we have official word that this series is being relaunched as part of All-New Marvel NOW (is that really what we're calling it? I...I have some pretty negative feelings about that), I'm excited to see where Spencer and co take it from here. Guys, Bucky Barnes! Finally! WAIT A MINUTE, I JUST READ SOMEWHERE THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE AN INFINITY TIE-IN AND NOT A CONTINUATION OF THE CURRENT STORY SO SCRATCH THIS ONE. REPLACING IT WITH SURPRISE PICK NOVA, WHICH IS NOT SO MUCH A SURPRISE BECAUSE ALPHABETICALLY IT CAME FIRST SO, IN FACT, YOU ALREADY KNOW I CHOSE IT.

Uncanny Avengers 13
Ooh, if the fights in this weren't getting so intense and the plans of the Apocalypse twins weren't so interesting, this sure would be in a tight battle for this spot. Thunderbolts, Venom-WAIT, Venom is ending this issue, scratch this one.

Venom 42
Venom is ending this month! I nearly forgot! I knew it was constantly on the brink but finally that brink is here and we can avoid it no longer. Not a great week for Cullen Bunn at Marvel as Venom ends hot on the heels of Fearless Defenders' cancellation. The difference? One of these books was constantly really good. Hint: it was Venom. Sad to see it go.

Young Avengers 11
Young Avengers! One of the best books that Marvel is putting out and I'm getting real nervous at the lack of "season two" plans, as Gillen and McKelvie have referred to their book by seasons. You better all be reading it. It's so intricate, it's so fun, it's so wonderful and I don't want to lose this like so much Venom (I really liked Venom though, for real). It's not often that a book can go so on-the-nose that its author nearly called the arc "On the Nose" can be so engaging and so surprising, but hey, that's Young Avengers. Real good stuff. Sorry for the backhand there, Venom. You've suffered enough.
